Beds and Frames

I went over to the site yesterday to take a look at the progress. This is what awaited me.

Now, while I'm happy to have SOME framing done (finally!), I am still a little disappointed because this is basically the same status that I saw last week and all the other homes around our block are almost at the roof stage, when originally most if not all of them were supposed to close after us. It just doesn't seem like they are very concerned with working on our block and it's more than a little discouraging...

BUT on the positive note, I went to Mattress Mart yesterday to do some comparison shopping. I had originally gone to Sleep Country and thought I had found a good deal on beds, but upon talking and comparing beds at Mattress Mart with my friend Shannon...actually more like joking and testing out the beds by hopping/flinging ourselves/bouncing on them, I upgraded to a better quality mattress and the total price was only about 200 more than Sleep Country. So I am cancelling my order with them and going with Mattress Mart instead. I am very happy with my buy now and can't wait for it to be delivered!!

Now if only the house could get completed already so that there's somewhere TO deliver...that'd be great! lol..

Triple-Threat Ottoman

I went to Home Sense on Monday (I swear that store is SO addictive!) and I saw this ottoman that I thought was REALLY nice, but it cost more than I had budgeted and I left it because I wanted to think about it a bit more....

Well..for the night and next day at work, I kept kicking myself for not getting the ottoman. The mental image basically taunted me all that time, because it was so perfect for me that I was a fool to leave it! So right after work, I went to the Home Sense, intent on picking it up. I made a beeline for the area where it was...to find that it was no longer there. I was really disappointed until I looked over to another corner of the store and THERE IT WAS!! YAY!! So I bought the ottoman and now I'm REALLY happy I did.

lol...I realise I'm talking about an ottoman like it's something substantial and life changing...but I REALLY liked it! Plus, from all my other posts, you should know by now how totally into the home experience I truly am! lol...

So my new ottoman has the same configuration as this picture, except the top part is puffier and smoother.

It's great because:

a- The top part is cushy enough to be used as a nice footrest.

b- The top part has lids that have wood on the other side so they can be flipped used as a table for drinks and snacks.

c- The storage underneath will be great for magazines and blankets etc.

AND it was actual leather upholstery so that was a nice bonus! Quite happy with my purchase if I do say so myself! lol...

Ooops! They did it again!!

WELL!!

After my builder assured me that EVERYTHING was on schedule and going along smoothly, I just received a call from my Customer Care Coordinator saying that I have been delayed until May 25!!

ARRRRRRRRRGH!!

This was me...

BUT again, there are some silver linings-

1- I get to save up even more money
2- I get to move in (hypothetically) better weather.
3- It's a great birthday present because my birthday is about a week before closing.
4- If they delay me again, then THEY owe ME money according to the new Tarion rules.

BUT.. All that being said, I want to get into my house so ...I shake my fist at you, Mattamy!! Just maybe not as hard as before...lol.

Construction and Framing

I had my construction meeting today!! I met with one of the builders and he went over all my upgrades and changes, as well as information on appliances and scheduling. He also said that my exterior choices are confirmed so I actually get what I saw! WHOO HOO!!

So far, everything seems to be on track, though he made sure to mention that the weather can sometimes play a factor in delays and while 'Mattamy is in the business of making sure homes are on time, sometimes delays do happen'.

Menh! If a new house construction was on time in this city, THAT would be a miracle!! :)

Also, he mentionned that framing was scheduled to happen on my block starting today!! So of course, I did a lil drive-by (the peaceful kind), and lo and behold, there were men shovelling off my block to start workin' on it!! WAAAAAAA HOOOOOOO!! FINALLY!!!

Only downside was that the contruction workers looked nothing like the ones on TV. You know- with the bulging muscles and the tight shirts... just sweaty enough to be manly, but not enough to be gross and soak the T-shirt..a real Gilette-shaving, Tommy Hilfiger-modelling, make-all-the-women-in-the-Coke-commercial-gather-at-lunch-to-stare-at-him kinda guy...which...gotta say...REALLY SUCKED!! You're taking this long to build my house...at least gimme something pretty to look it!! LOL..

*sigh* TV ruins everything... ;)

What You See is What I Get..

So I got a great call from my CCC yesterday who told me the outside colours of my house!! Granted these are the preliminary colours but I hope that they don't change because I really quite enjoy them!

I know my roof is black, which I think is cool because I was expecting a brown roof.

The front door paint is 'Country Home' and the garage door will be painted 'Pumice Stone'.  I'm still trying to find examples of those two from Para Paints. I'll post them if I do.

I did manage to find examples of the other items though.

This is supposed to be my Brick Colour. I like how it looks like a classic red home with darker undertones to it. It's very Manhattan brownstone-ish...like I'm a Cosby!! lol...

This is supposed to be my siding color. I like that it's a grey tone since I was hoping for nice and cool colours for consistency inside and outside my home. As a side note- who NAMES these colours???  I think the person who named this paint colour was sick that day in kindergarten when the teacher  reviewed colours  because I find it ineresting that a GREY colour has the name 'BROWNstone'... Or maybe they're colour blind...or maybe they just have a REALLY great sense of humour.. Either way, I do think it's entirely evident that I have now had far too much time on my hands for I to be considering this issue at all so I digress. Here is the paint colour! LOL..=D

This is supposed to be my cedar shingles that will be on part of the front of the home. The picture is a litle blurry but sadly, it's the best I can do. When I did the virtual picture, it looked really nice so I'm quite happy! (And for those wondering, no..I don't have a problem with the name of this colour! lol!!)

So far I am a happy person with these choices (can you tell cause I've only said it like 20 times in the last post! lol!), so here's hoping they don't change anything by the time is comes to finalize everything.

3 MONTHS AND COUNTING!!

2010.... Accentuate the Positive....

Well yesterday was a very up and down day...

Starting on the personal front, I got into a car accident on New Year's Day. We had some really bad weather that night and the car skidded on some ice and eventually ended up in a ditch. I thank God that it was just me because it could have been so much worse if there had been other traffic, or even a different location. I had called Teleheath Ontario that night and they said I should be fine. However, due to increasing pain, I finally got checked out at the hospital yesterday (I know! Shouldn't have waited so long!) and what I thought was just a muscle injury turned out to be a '10% compression fracture of the L1 vertebrae' in doctor-speak. According to my intensive weekly medical training (read: watching ER and Grey's Anatomy), scientifically speaking...that aint good! lol..
So I am currently off work for a week to recoup, and trying to not move my torso so much. It's very strange..I feel like Frankenstein because of the stiff movements, BUT I am hopeful that my body will come back stronger and better!! GO BODY GO!! (Kinda like 'Go Gadget Go!' for all those '80s kids who grew up watching Inspector Gadget...) he he he..

BUT what ALSO happened yesterday is I received a call from Luis, one of the assistant builders from Mattamy and my pre-construction meeting has been set for Monday at 12:30!! WHOO HOOO!! Timing sucks just a bit because sitting in a chair for a long period of time is not my favorite thing to do right now BUT I will do it in order to figure out exactly what's going on with the house and when I will be able to finally have my own place to call home!! This helps to keep the positive energy going..hopefully I'll be saying the same thing after Monday! :)

Wish me luck!

Updates and Closing Dates...

Happy New Year to All!!!!

This is officially my first blog entry of the new year, one that I will be getting a house!! WHOO HOO!!

BUT....in terms of updates on the house building...I have none. lol...

It seems that there's been a stall in building as they are still on the foundation phase of my home. I know that I've seen some of the wood available for framing but there hasn't been any actual work done on my block. The neighbours around me and the village home block beside mine have had lots of progress on framing. I'm hoping that the next few weeks will show some real improvement on the house building front.

On the good news front, I looked at my countdown today and I have 'triple threes'- 3 months, 3 weeks, and 3 days until closing. There's silver lining in my clouds!! lol...
